1) President’s Message:
Happy New
Year to everyone. As we
begin this new year of golf, I would like to make a few comments about our
Club.
I hope we can increase our member’s
participation in the new year. While many of our members have regular foursomes
and established start times, there are open times that are
not assigned so I would encourage you to call or go to the pro shop
and sign up for the open times. In addition, members of foursomes are required
to release their time by Friday of each week if they are not playing on the
following Monday. You can call the course to determine what times have been
released and have your name entered in the open spot, or you can visit the pro
shop and ask the pro shop attendant to show you the list for the times that
have been released and place your name in the open spot.
I also encourage you to
visit the Club's Web Site. There is a wealth of information about the Club
activities and upcoming events for your review and how you can communicate
your thought and ideas to the Board of Directors. The Club's Web Site can be
viewed by logging onto www.shorelineseniorsgolfclub.net.

3) Mark, Lift, Clean & Place:
This Local Rule is to be applied by Shoreline
Seniors Golf Club members when the Course is playing under “Cart
Path Only Conditions”
A ball lying on a closely mown area through
the green may be lifted without penalty and cleaned. Before lifting the ball, the player must mark
its position. Having lifted the ball, he
must place it on a spot within one club length of and not nearer the hole than
where it originally lay that is not in a hazard and not on a putting
green. “Mark,
Lift, Clean & Place”
A player may place his ball only once and
it is in play when it has been placed (Rule 20-4). If the ball fails to come to rest on the spot
on which it was placed, Rule 20-3d applies. If the ball when placed comes to
rest on the spot on which it is placed and it subsequently moves, there is no
penalty and the ball must be played as it lies, unless the provision of any
other Rule applies. If the player fails
to mark the position of the ball before lifting it or moves the ball in any
other manner, such as rolling it with a club, he incurs a penalty of one
stroke.
When ball comes to rest in the
rough it may not be marked, picked, clean and placed, unless there is bird
feces on the ball. Player must declare to his playing partner(s) his intent to
clean the ball. Ball must be placed back on the exact spot where it came to
rest (one club length is not allowed)
NOTE: “Closely mown area”
means any area of the course, including paths through the rough, cut to fairway
height or less.

Seniors Committee for Competition - December 17, 2010
4) Recording of “Penalty” scores by the committee
(Handicap chairman, Tournament chairman, President):
In the spirit of preserving
the integrity of handicaps, the following guidelines will be followed with
regards to recording a “penalty” score (the lowest score recorded in the most
recent 20) for members who complete a stipulated round during Shoreline Seniors
Tournaments and who fail to record their scores:
1.
Failure by
a member to record a score following a designated (T) Tournament.
2.
Noted
repeated failures by a member to record scores during regular Tournaments
Additionally,
a failure to record a score in any Shoreline Seniors Tournament will result in a
disqualification for that Tournament.
These guidelines were discussed and agreed to by the Board of Directors at the
13 Jan 2011 Board meeting.
5) Greens Committee Report:
Shoreline will be installing the
sod on #12 fairway on Tuesday, the 11th of Jan. The sod
crew usually shows up first
thing in the morning and hopefully the work will be done in a
few hours. Once the sod is
completed we will make sure the area is roped off and signs
will be placed around it. The
rest of that week looks like rain so we will try to schedule the hydroseed for
the following week if we can.
We have been and will continue
to replace batteries on a number of golf carts the in
next few months.
Shoreline Staff will be hosting
a meeting of local agencies next week to discuss the
addling of geese eggs in the
south bay this spring. This is a continuation of a program
that started in 2008.
We are in the planning stages of
resurfacing and painting the parking lot this spring.
We will keep you posted when dates
become available.
6) Hole-In-One:
Congratulations to Bill Beal for getting a hole-in-one at the 11th
hole on November 29, 2010. He used a five wood and was approximately 129 yards
away.
