Playing the Red Tees

First---Determine your Handicap from the Red Tees using your GHIN Index(it is the same form all tees) Use the Slope Rating Table to find your course Handicap. It is Index x slope /116. Slope for Red tees at Shoreline is 116, therefore your course handicap will be the same as your GHIN Index.

Second--Calculate the difference in the Course Rating between the Red Tees and the White Tees( at Shoreline the difference is 3,rounded off) Red Tee Rating is 66.5,with White Tee Rating of 69.3,with slope 123, making the Red Tees 3-strokes easier. Thus to be competitive with players playing White tees deduct 3 from the Red Tee Handicap. If your Red tee handicap is 17 you will be playing with a course handicap of 14, and using the Red tee hole handicaps in the score card. Also use the lower part of your score card to record your name and the score to indicate that Red tees have been played.

Rules for commonly encoutered problems:

Aeration Holes:
Through the green, a ball that comes to rest in or on a aeration hole may be lifted without penalty, cleaned and dropped, as near as possible to the spot where it lay but not nearer the hole.
On the putting green, a ball that comes to rest in or on an aeration hole may be placed at the nearest spot not nearer the hole that avoids the situation.

Immovable Obstruction Close to Putting Green: Line of Play.
If a ball lies off the putting green , and if an immovable obstruction( for example, a sprinkler head)is within two club-lenghts of the putting green and within two club-lenghts of the ball, intervenes on the line of play between the ball and the hole the player may take relief as follows:
The ball must be lifted and dropped at the nearest point to where the ball lay that (a) is not nearer the hole, (b) avoids intervention and (c) is not in a hazard or on a putting green. The ball may be cleaned when lifted.
