Friday Greens Rounds/Revenue

Jack mentioned that staff has been reviewing the last five months of Friday rounds and they are not consistently seeing more golfers and revenue. There will be a full six months of information after June and a full report will be done at that time. The report will be discussed at the PRC in August. Vic Calvo asked that the Friday rounds be compared to the rounds played the rest of the week in order to see if they are having the same percentage of reduced rounds of golf.

Junior Tournament Volunteers

Jack reminded everyone that a US Kids Northern California World Championship Qualifying Tournament will be held Thursday, June 19 at Shoreline Golf Links. There are approximately 100 players ages 5- 12 to register for the event. The Shoreline Jr. Classic a Junior Golf Association of Northern California sanctioned tournament will be held on Friday, June 20th. There are approximately 240 players ages 8- 17 to register for the event.  Harry and Jim will be volunteering.

Migratory Bird Management:

Jack advised the committee that the new Goose Poop Remover has been working well. The sweeper is being used at the golf course and the turfed areas of Shoreline at Mountain View. The City has attained Losee’s Goose Control to provide Goose Control for the next six months. The service will work at the golf course two times a day, five days a week and will bring 2-3 dogs each visit.

Jack mentioned that Jones and Stokes has started to work on a constraint analysis and cost estimate for a nuisance bird management program at Shoreline Golf Links.  Jones and Stokes will work with City Staff and outside agencies such as golf courses and regulatory agencies to review existing information, identify potential management practices, develop a constraints analysis for each and recommend a policy/program recommendation for the City to adopt with respect to nuisance birds at Shoreline Golf Links. Jack will report back at the July meeting on how the process is proceeding.

Superintendent’s Update:

Steve advised the Committee that the installation of the bridge at hole 4 will be installed in late September or early October. Steve also mentioned that work continues on the bank stabilization project along the tenth fairway. It is going well and the small hills along the 10th fairway will be hydro seeded. The greens will be verti cut and top dressed soon.

Questions from Committee Members:

Jim mentioned at the member/member golf tournament that there was positive input from those who played. Harry asked when new sand will be put in traps. Steve told the committee that he will be doing 15-20 traps soon. Harry mentioned that there seems to be a drainage issue at the 14th tee. Steve said he is aware of it and will be taking care of it.

Harry also asked when the 200yd blue markers will be installed. Steve and Jack said that they will be looking into this year. Vic mentioned that some of the fairways are not coming back evenly and that we should concentrate on putting sand into the traps that come into play the most such as eight and eleven. Steve told the committee that his crews will be drill seeding the fairways and that they will soon start work on the par three traps.
