April showers should be nearly finished. Let’s hope we see many May flowers.
The Greens have been plugged, sanded, re-sanded and brushed. Their recovery appears to be quicker and better than in previous years. We hope this will allow for cutting to a normal height soon.
The last bus is a little late in arriving to pick-up the remaining “Coots” to take them wherever they go during the summer. Hopefully, soon they will all be gone so we can enjoy a cleaner round of golf.
Shoreline Golf Links has recently added a Local Rule pertaining to the “bird droppings” on the course. Shoreline Seniors Golf Club will abide by the new rule as we do with the other Local Rules established by the Course. Copies of all the Shoreline Golf Links Local Rules are available at the Greeters Table each Monday morning and most of the Rules are also printed on the back of the score card. Shoreline Seniors Golf Club also adheres to additional Rules and Procedures established by the Club which are posted on our Web Site at the following address; www.shorelineseniorsgolfclub.org.
After much discussion, the Golf course adopted a standard for placement of rakes in the Sand Bunkers. The rakes should be placed with the prongs in the bunker and the handle placed outside. There are pictures on the announcement board on the patio just by the door to the Pro Shop.
Our Annual Poppy Hills Golf Tournament will be held on August 15, 2007. The format this year will be Best Two Ball Foursome with the first tee time scheduled for 10:00 AM. We have reserved 40 tee times and assignments will be made on a first come-first serve basis. Sign-up forms will be available at the Greeter’s Table the first week of June and in the June Newsletter. For questions, contact Hideo Hashimoto at (650)-941-3384.
The Thursday, May 31st scheduled Tournament will be played on Wednesday, May 30, 2007. The first tee time will begin at 6:32AM. Since there will be a limited number of tee times available, an open sign-up sheet for tee times will be displayed at the Greeter’s Table beginning Monday, May 14th at 7:00AM. This will be on a first come first served basis with one tee time per player. You may sign-up as a twosome, threesome or foursome but you must provide the names of all players when signing-up.
The scheduled Wednesday, May 30th Tournament will be moved to Thursday, May 31with the first tee time available at 7:00AM. Sign-ups will be as usual…first come first served on day of play.
The deadline to sign-up for the BBQ Shotgun Foursome is June 25, 2007. A sign-up form can be found at the end of this Newsletter. For further information, please contact Frank Frankhauser at (650)-948-7432.

REMINDER: New Range Schedule
Effective May 1, the range will be closed on Wednesday
mornings instead of Thursday mornings.
A recent analysis of play showed the largest number of weekday rounds
occurs on Thursdays, however, that was the one day the range was closed. As rounds were lower Wednesdays, it was
determined that Wednesday would be a better day to close the range for
maintenance as fewer customers would be inconvenienced.
Last Chance to Enter the Drawing for the Titleist DT
So/Lo Ball and Barbecue Promotion
The drawing for the Thermos Grill 2 Go Barbecue (suggested retail $229.99) will be held on Tuesday, May 15. Buy one dozen Titleist DT So/Lo Balls ($20.00 per dozen) and have your name entered into the drawing -- but do it beffore the drawing on May 15!
New Items in Pro Shop

The spring line of Ashworth shirts for men has arrived. Good opportunity for Father’s Day or Graduation gifts! Other spring apparel will be coming in weekly. Check with the Pro Shop for more details.
Short Game Area
Maintenance crews worked on the short game area on the far side of the pond during April. The entire chipping area and chipping green was aerated, reseeded with ryegrass and lightly top-dressed. The bunker face to the green had one to two feet of sand buildup removed. This area was then re-leveled and new sod applied. Thank you to the crew for a job well done!

Joe DeBode says…
New Local Rule: After considerable discussions with
the USGA, a new local rule has been adopted for Shoreline Golf Links regarding
Bird Droppings. If a Player’s ball
lies on, next to, or has feces adhering to the ball, the player may mark, lift,
clean the ball and place it within 6 inches of the original spot, no closer to
the hole.
Junior Golf: It is time to again address the issue of Junior Golf at Shoreline.
We conduct two events each June and seek volunteers to assist with each event.
The first event is the USKids Northern California Championship on June 21. This event will start in late morning or noon and run until 6PM. The second event is the Shoreline Junior Classic held on June 29. This event will start about 7AM and run until 7PM. This event will number more than 200 players in ages 9 through 17. The girl’s division is a qualifying tournament for the Junior World Girl’s Event this year.
In each of these events, we need volunteers to work as escorts for the younger age groups. We will also need marshals, starters for the 1st and 10th tees, and staff for the check-in and scoring tables. If you are able to volunteer, please contact Joe DeBode at 650-903-6135 or Joe.DeBode@mountainview.gov
The Nineteenth Hole…You may notice an addition to your golfing newsletter. Editors Anderson, Hashimoto and Williams are going to add a bit of human interest to our publication. So be forewarned. You may be quoted or noted by name rank and serial number because of some outrageous comment or behavior.
New Member Biography: Dr Gil Reese, a native of California, Gil attended Burlingame High School, and Stanford University, graduating with a major in biology. He continued his studies at the University of Wisconsin, earning an MD specializing in ophthalmology. Three years with the Mayo Clinic were followed by 2 years in Public Health. Gil then opened his private practice in Sacramento where he continued to live, work and raise his family with wife Margaret until retirement in 1988. Gil and his wife Margaret now live in Menlo Park. Margaret is a very active member of the Shoreline Ladies Golf group. Gils phone # is 650-234-8449 if you need to fill a foursome. He is a fun guy to play with.
Also I heard from member S. Cantwell. He suggests a change in Rule 5. Putts that stop close enough to the cup that they could be blown in, may be blown in. This should not apply to balls more than three inches from the hole (no one wants to make a travesty of the game). Please send any other rule changes that you might suggest to spruce this game up to Mike Anderson.
Well, that’s our initial effort in enhanced communication with our membership. For further suggestions or observations email them to your Newsletter columnist – Mike Anderson at bma1665@aol.com - but identify yourself in the message with the word Shoreline. No profanities please. My Grandkids sometimes use this machine.
