Local Rules…

Please be sure to check the Greeter’s Table on Tournament Day for any new local rules recently instituted by the Club.

President’s Message…

January and February are finally finished; Spring is due to arrive this month, hopefully putting an end to lengthy frost delays and heavy rains. Don’t forget that Daylight Savings Time starts earlier this year.  The “coots” should all be on their way to other places by the middle of April…than maybe the Golf Course will return to Golfers and better scores.

Recently some of our members have had questions regarding some of the most recent Rule changes made by the USGA. Please read the “Supplemental Local Rules” as printed on the back of the Shoreline Golf Course scorecards. Also there are some additional Rules that have been adopted over time by the Board of Directors that appear under Rules and Procedures as posted on the Web Site.

The most recent change can be obtained at the Greeter’s Table when you sign in prior to Monday’s Tournament. Some of these latest changes relate to the various bird droppings that are often extremely bothersome.

Please note the listing of Board of Directors and their various responsibilities for the year 2007. There were some vacant chairs due to resignations, etc. These openings have been filled to bring the Board to a full complement of Directors.

So lets all look forward to an enjoyable 2007 of golf and camaraderie with our fellow members.

Board Assignments…

The following are the 2007 Board of Directors and their assigned responsibilities.  If you have questions or comments in any of these areas, please feel free to contact the assigned Board Member(s) directly.  If unsure of whom to contact, email your question/comment to the Club at shorelinesenior@yahoo.com and we will get back to you.

From the Desk of Paula Bettencourt…

Golf Cart Bridge:  You may have noticed that the golf cart bridge to the range and 10th Tee is not as noisy as it had been.  Additional bolts were added to the wooden members that attach to the bridge frame.  Also, a neoprene layer was inserted between the bolts and the frame to cushion the impact of the carts on the bridge and reduce the sound produced.

Proposed Changes to Fees at Shoreline Golf Links:  Staff proposed a few changes to the fees at Shoreline Golf Links.  These proposals were discussed with the Advisory Greens Committee (AGC) at the Tuesday, January 23 meeting.  The AGC felt the proposals were appropriate and reasonable.  The Parks and Recreation Commission reviewed the proposals at its February 14 meeting and are recommending City Council approval.

Proposed is an increase in golf cart rental from $22 to $24, back nine $15 to $17 and member club single rider from $11 to $12.  The fee for golf carts has been in place since 1998, is lower than all other courses surveyed and the carts themselves are in excellent condition.  Also, concerning golf lessons, increases to those classes where fees do not cover expenses has been proposed.  A temporary decrease in green fees for Fridays is also proposed.  Green fees for seniors, twilight and super twilight categories were also reviewed but no increases proposed.

The City Council will review the recommendations as part of the City’s budget process for 2007-08.  If you would like more information, a copy of the staff report presented to the PRC or a notice of the meeting date the Council will review the fee proposals, please contact Paula Bettencourt.  Paula can be contacted at paula.bettencourt@ci.mtnview.ca.us or by phone at 650-903-6076.

A New PGA Pro:  On January 24, 2007, Bill Mykytka was elected to membership in the PGA. Bill’s election to membership is the culmination of a 5-year program of self-study programs, periodic checkpoints at the PGA Education Center in Florida and on the job training here at Shoreline Golf Links. Bill joins Joe DeBode, Roy Day and Neal Parkinson as Class A PGA Pros at the course.  Congratulations to Bill on his hard work and accomplishment!
