MINUTES OF MEETING HELD ON May 22, 2007

In attendance: Victor Calvo, Harry Emerzian, Francie Green, Paula Bettencourt, Steve Crane; Absent:  Beth Lamb

1.  Information from Paula:

Three articles from various golf magazines were distributed:  “Everyone Can Affect the Bottom Line”, “Pace of Play” and “What Drives Golfers Crazy”.

Junior Events for June:  June 21, USKids tournament (approximately 80 youth expected); and June 29, Shoreline Junior Classic (approximately 240 youth expected)

A question regarding monthly passes had been raised previously.  Upon further investigation, it was determined that only a few people had mentioned the idea.  It was decided not to pursue a monthly pass at this time.

2.  Information from Steve

Completed grading and seeding of mounds 15/16 rough; plugs from tees and greens were spread on top and seed broadcast.

·    All tees were aerified, seeded, sand applied, and fertilized

·    Green heights have been lowered; the greens have been rolled once a week

·    Bunker work has begun

·    Area back of #18 green, mounds and surrounds opened

·    Drill seeding will begin this week on thin areas throughout the course.  Many of the areas need work as the result of damage from the coots on the tees, fairways, and green surrounds

·    12 and 18 fairways were aerified on the thin and grassless areas and seeded

·    The 150 yard white Kirby markers arrived today and will be installed over the next few weeks

·    Right #7 rough, next to tee and beginning mound in rough have been rototilled and repacked with new dirt.  Landfill gas rising through cracks in the ground was the reason the work was done.   Several other areas on the course have also been identified and will be done over the course of the year (1 rough, 9 fairway/rough, 10 fairway, 11 rough, 12 fairway/rough, 18 fairway)

·            Fairways were sprayed for weeds early in May.  Broadleaf weeds, English daisies, and Kikuyu were the main target for the applications.  The tees and roughs will begin over the next few weeks

·    Coot fencing has been removed.  Most lake edges have been sprayed for weeds and algae control on the front nine

·    Out of bounds stakes have been reinstalled throughout the course

·    Greens will be sprayed this week with a fungicide application as the warm weather arrives.  This will be a preventative application for brown patch, summer patch, dollar spot, and anthracnose diseases

·            Aerating and drill seeding of bad areas are throughout the course will continue in June

·    Bunker work will also continue

·    #16 tees project will begin on the second week of June after the last NCGA qualifying event.  There will be a temporary tee pod approximately 50 yards short of the beginning of the fairway.  The area from the trees to the right of the 15th green to the beginning of the fairway will be filled with dirt, new and larger tee pods constructed and a new cart path installed

·    13 green and surrounds to #14 tees will begin at end of September /early October

5.  Information/Questions from Vic:

•Vic had no questions.  He complimented staff on their good performance.

6.  Information/Questions from Harry:

Harry said the course is in good condition.  He commends staff for their work and also appreciates the courtesy they show the golfers.

Harry thought the algae on the lakes is worse than in past years.  Steve does not feel the algae is more of a problem than in the past.  It was warmer earlier in the year than usual and that may have “jump started” the growth.  Steve recently sprayed and is also checking with vendors regarding any organic options.

Next Meeting:  Tuesday, June 19, 2007, 4:30 p.m.
