SHORELINE GOLF LINKS ADVISORY GREENS COMMITTEE

MINUTES OF MEETING HELD ON June 19, 2007

In attendance: Victor Calvo, Harry Emerzian, Francie Green, Paula Bettencourt, Steve Crane.  Absent:  Shoreline Golf Club representative

Information from Paula:

1.  Rate increases and decreases have been approved by the City Council and will go into effect on July 1.  There will be a "grace period" through September 30 for persons holding lesson gift certificates.  The increases and decreases were previously reviewed by the Advisory Greens Committee and the Parks and Recreation Commission.

2.  13th Green:  funding for the renovation of the 13th green has been approved by the City Council as part of the 2007-08 Capital Improvement Plan.  Steve and Paula will be meeting with golf course architect Gary Linn on Wednesday, June 21 to discuss preliminary plans.  The project is scheduled to begin in early October.  A temporary green will be established.  The renovated green is scheduled to open in March, weather permitting.

Comments from Harry:

1.  What is going on at 16?

Steve informed the group that a project to redo the tees on the 16th hole has begun.  Dirt import is under way.  Low spots will be filled in and the tee pods raised to above fairway view.  The area will fold down to the 15th green.  The tops of the tees will be sodded; the rest will be hydroseeded.  The goal is to complete the project by the middle of September.

2.  Harry indicated that this time last year and just recently, his legs have developed a red rash.  He is wondering if it could be from something used at the course.  Steve replied he has not applied either fertilizer or chemicals in 2 to 3 weeks.  It may be that the cause of the redness is a reaction to grasses at the course that have a particular characteristic this time of year.

Comments from Francie:

1.  The practice green putting area is in excellent shape  --  the best Francie has seen at Shoreline.  Steve replied that he has lowered the height of the mowers and rolled the green earlier in the morning.  He has had staff roll the green regularly and has seen improvement.

Comments from Vic:

1.  Vic asked when the bare areas at the top of the mounds on 7 would be seeded.  Steve replied the areas would be seeded Wednesday June 20 or Thursday June 21.

2.  Vic asked if we have had complaints from golfers concerning children not using the practice areas as intended.  Neither Paula nor Steve have but Paula will ask Joe if he has heard concerns.   We will determine if "unsupervised" children is an occasional situation or if it is becoming an issue we need to look into.

3.  Vic complimented staff on the condition of the course

Next meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at 4:30 p.m. in the Golf Course Conference Room.
