SHORELINE GOLF LINKS ADVISORY GREENS COMMITTEE
MINUTES OF MEETING HELD ON April 24, 2007
In attendance:
Victor Calvo, Harry Emerzian, Paula Bettencourt, Steve Crane
1. Information from Paula:
•Demo Day: Demo Day was very successful. Over $47,000 worth of clubs and other
merchandise was sold.
•
New Local Rule: A new local rule for
Shoreline Golf Links has been approved by the USGA. It states: “If a player’s
ball lies on, next to or has feces adhering to the ball, the player may mark,
lift, clean the ball and place it within 6 inches of the original spot, no
closer to the hole.”
•18th
Green: The 18th opened on
Saturday, March 31, 2007. Comments have
been very positive.
•New
Equipment: heavy duty utility vehicle,
a greens aerator, a trim mower (with sidewinder feature) and a walk behind
mower
have all been delivered. A new fairway
aerator is on order. Steve is pleased
with the new equipment, in particular the greens aerator which he feels is far
superior to the aerator we have been using.
2. Information from Steve
•Greens
were double verdicut, seeded and sanded
•Tees are
currently being aerified with seeding and sanding to follow; work on greens
surrounds is next.
•Short
game practice area was closed. The
bunker face was removed and repairs made to the green, and surrounds. New sod was installed.
•Tees on #16 are scheduled for improvement this year.
•An
in-depth chart listing bird control devices employed over the last several
years, the product name, description, year used, cost and rate of success was
distributed and discussed. Vic suggested that this base information be used to
develop a narrative of what has been tried over the years and what strategy
will be used for 2007 – 2008.
5.
Information/Questions from Vic.:
•Vic was pleased
to see the poppies on the north side of the new road. He thinks they look great and looks forward to the poppies
spreading to other areas – especially the out of bounds areas near the course.
6.
Information/Questions from Harry:
•Harry asked if
any progress had been made concerning a monthly pass for seniors. Paula has obtained some initial information
but has not had time to fully look into it..
•Harry was
concerned that some of the trees in the median on the new road were covered
with dirt and won’t survive. Paula
mentioned that this has been done before with a surprisingly good survival
rate. The thought was to do the work
and monitor the trees. Those that do
not survive will be replaced.
•Harry
asked about adding tress on #12. Steve
indicated there are no plans for trees.
Steve is hoping to add trees on the new dirt mound between #15 and #16.
•Harry
inquired about the standing water on the right side of the white tee at
#16. Steve indicated the area will be
filled with dirt and a new cart path from the font of #15 green to the
beginning of the fairway will be constructed.
