POSTING SCORES
Player responsibilities under
Sections 4 (Adjusting Hole Scores) and 5 (Scores) of the USGA Handicap System
Every
player is required to record a score for a hole not finished, not played or not
played under The Rules of Golf. Players must also, for posting purposes, reduce
any hole score when it is higher than the maximum
number allowed under Equitable Stroke Control. The “most likely score” for
holes not completed or conceded strokes is to be shown on a score card as “X-5”
or “X-6” etc. and
is defined as the number of strokes already taken plus the player’s best
judgment of the number of strokes needed to complete the hole from that
position more than half the time. For
holes not played, the score recorded for such holes must be par plus any handicap strokes the
player is entitled to receive on the hole not player, also shown as “X-5” or “X-4”,
etc.
Every
player is responsible for returning all acceptable scores. Players must post:
(1) An
18-hole score if 13-18 holes were played
(2) A
9-hole score if 7-12 holes were played
(3) Gross
scores, adjusted for Equitable Stroke Control (ESC)
(4) Scores
in all forms of competition
(5) Scores
made in accordance with the principles of The Rules of Golf
(6) Acceptable
scores, even when disqualified
Exceptions
are as follows: You must not post if: you only played 1-5 holes;
if you did not play the majority of the holes in accordance with the principles
of The Rules of Golf; if you played in a competition limiting the maximum
number of clubs to 1-13; you used non-conforming clubs, balls or tees; and you
used an artificial device or piece of unusual equipment or equipment in an
unusual manner in the execution of a stroke.
