The Board Meeting was called to order at 9:30 AM by President Sid Cantwell

President Cantwell had sent out a meeting agenda which called for a discussion of assigned jobs and how they will work. He asked each member assigned a specific job to discuss how they intended to run their assigned task.

President Cantwell also announced that he had set up a meeting subsequent to the Board meeting for anyone interested in the Club budget and asked them to stay after the offcicial meeting and meet to discuss the working of the budget with current Treasurer Roshinski, and Past Treasurer Fujikawa.

Membership Chairman Jim Schmidt reported that he had the latest membership list which reflected 130 Paid members. The suggestion was made that calls be made to non-renewers and find out if that former member had just overlooked paying the dues or if there was a reason for non- renewal. He has received packets made up by the prior membership Chairperson Larry Peck which can be given to new members. This includes the By Laws, Directory, Tournament Schedule, and Cover letter from the Membership Chairperson. This will be supplemented and forwarded to new memberes as they join.

There was then extended conversation ref the variance between a prior announcement that our club had 170 members which was in conflict with the announcement that we now had 130 paid members.

It was stated that sometimes the non- renewer would pay later than the required date,

that there was a social member that did not require dues, and that we might get 4 or 5 new members over the course of the year.( And then there was something about the fact that we had 170 names in the computer.??)

President Cantwell noted that in 2003 the club had registered 6,000 rounds of play in that year while only 4,500 in 2008. Mr Pilcher suggested that the 2003 number was generated by Los Altos golfers joining the club for just a year while their club was being renovated.

Treasurer Rodhinski reported that we had $13,400 in the bank and asked for information as to whom the names and bio’s of new members should be sent.  It was agreed that the President as well as Membership Chairman and Newsletter Editor should be included.

Dave Collins is Tournament Chairperson. He suggested that the tournament of the day be displayed on the first tee as well as the pro shop. He also inquired about the NCGA qualifying tournaments. OJ Pilcher, Handicap Chair, suggested we not promote this as there has been only a modicum of interest by the members in the past.

Wilson Fong is reinstating the greeters. Several months ago the Board had decided there was no real need that greeters be present. That opinion has changed and we will once again have greeters. The question was raised by Wilson as to whether he should call members who do not play regularly. There seemed to be an undertone of affirmation by those around the table that all members when joining, do agree to serve in various volunteer capacities over the course of their membership. Hence Wilson should pursue them.

Vic Calvo represented Harry Emerzian in his absence. The main thrust of his remarks relative to City actions concerned birds, namely coots and geese.(surprise!). After numerous high level meetings and much debate by the City Fathers, a decision was reached! Goose eggs will be addled! This will hopefully reduce the number of goslings which will reduce the number of eventual Mommy and Daddy geese and over the years may limit the total number of geese that vacation at Shoreline Golf course. In addition the City had decided to remove the present attractivenes of the course to birds and man by removing the water from all course ponds. There is no determination at this time as to the future configuration of the ponds.

Don Sutton , Newsletter editor and publisher  announced that a 7 page hardcopy had been mailed out to all  club members .(135 or 170? see earlier paragraph) Future Newletters will no be that long as this contained a roster and other annual info.

Syed Hyder continues to monitor and tweak the website and he received many compliments from the Board for his work. He asks that all information continue to be sent him for posting on the web.

Frank Frankhauser is the Social Chairman and is currently promoting the upcoming Valentines Dinner /Dance. We need to encourage sign ups for this affair.

New Business

Ted Roshinski needs some new signees for the checking account as he would like at least 2 signatures for all checks.

Frank Ruccolo asked that consideration be given to some change in the Wednesday morning sign up prodecures. It seems that because one member can sign up 3 others at one time the result is the same foursomes at the same times, thus possibly excluding singles that show up. No decsion regarding a change was made.

Don Sutton announced that there would be a Poppy Hills Tournament for Shoreline Senior  members on August 27 for 36 players. He asked that this event be officially “sponsered” by our club. The question was posed about the meaning of sponsorship and a few members tried to opine on what that meant. One member said he thought it meant ”approved” and that by so doing it would give it a little extra impact and the image it creates. There was no objection. President Cantwell ordered it to be placed in the next Newsletter.

President stated the next Board meeting will occur on Thursday, April 16th and commence at 9:30 Am.

The meeting was concuded at 11:15Am.

Respectfully submitted

Michael Anderson , Secretary .
